The Christmas Spirit

I had the hardest time getting into the Christmas spirit this year. Part of the reason is things I’ve talked about here, like being unemployed/underemployed and fighting with the health insurance exchange (I still don’t exactly know what my health insurance is going to be on the first of January.). Part of the reason is things I haven’t talked about and will not talk about. It’s just been a hard December.

It really took me until Christmas morning to catch the spirit. You see, I wasn’t at all sure that Santa was going to make it to my house this year (That’s part of the problem with being unemployed/underemployed.). But he did come. He had to cheat a little, but on Christmas morning, there were some presents under the tree. I got to see my kid unwrap some presents. That was a good start.

Then we got together with the family in the afternoon. It just felt like Christmas with everyone together. We ate a good meal, had good desserts, and sat and talked. It was fun.

I’m glad I got there in the nick of time, but next year I hope to catch the spirit much earlier. Maybe I’ll have a job and health insurance by then. That would make things much easier.
