I realized something shocking today. We’re on the Saturday before “the most consequential” presidential election of our lives and I haven’t written a single thing about it. I checked and it’s actually been about two years since I’ve posted anything political at all. I used to post political things all the time. What’s changed in the last two years?
The sad answer to that question is nothing. Nothing’s changed in the last two years. Nor in the last four years. Not even in the last eight years. It’s still Trump and Trumpers against centrist Democrats. What can I say about that? Nothing interesting, that’s for sure. I don’t think anyone can say anything interesting about it that hasn’t been said 1,000 times since 2016.
Look at today’s headlines. USA Today says, “Harris and Trump making closing arguments on busy weekend” and “Don’t be fooled on election day: 6 false claims to watch out for” MSNBC says, “Supreme Court rejects Republican bid to block provisional ballots in Pennsylvania” And The Guardian says, “Donald Trump is a superspreader of craziness that is dividing America in two”. Any of those could have been written in 2016. Heck, they probably were written in 2016.
We’ll have to see if anything changes, if anything interesting happens. Otherwise, it might be another two years before I write anything political again.
