Comfort Reading

How many of you reread books? I certainly do. There are certain books that I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve read them. Those are my comfort books.

I bring this up because for the last year and a half, I have been unable to read. I think I read a total of three books in that time. I can’t really explain it. I want to read. I have time to read. I just don’t do it.

That is, I didn’t do it until a few weeks ago. My mom has been trying to wake me from my reading slumber. She found me a copy of The Hobbit. I have no idea what happened to my copy, but I borrowed hers. It is my ultimate comfort read. I took it home and actually read it. It was great, as usual.

Now I’m almost done with book one of The Lord of the Rings (The Ring Sets Out). I’ve actually been reading almost every day. Not a lot, but I’ve been reading. Small victories, right?

In a couple of weeks, I’ll do my annual reread of A Christmas Carol (another one of my comfort books). Then, we’ll have to see. In the new year, I’d like to try reading something new. I’m not going to make it a resolution or anything. Right now, it’s just a hope. Wish me luck.

What are some of your comfort books?
