The Tedeschi Trucks Band is the best band working today. I went to see them tonight with my brother at the Meadows (I know that’s technically not the name of the venue anymore, but it will always be the Meadows) in Hartford. There was a decent crowd at the show, but it was nowhere near sold out. That got us wondering how popular the band is. We have no clear idea, but we do know that they are not popular enough. So I figured, since I didn’t post anything on the 6th, that I’d write a quick piece encouraging everyone to check them out.
As a band, they are a bit hard to classify. The basically live in the place where blues, rock, jazz, gospel, R&B, country and folk music meet. They can be super soulful and super funky. It’s a twelve piece band, but they really work as a unit. Every member is a skilled technician, but plays with feeling.
Plus, they are the type of band that is liable to play any song on any given night. At tonight’s show they did Blind Faith’s Had To Cry Today, The Carter Family’s Will The Circle Be Unbroken, Joe Tex’s Show Me, The Grateful Dead’s Sugaree, Ray Charles’ Night Time Is The Right Time and Bonnie Raitt’s Angel From Montgomery. They are also very generous and often feature guests sitting in with the band. Tonight, Jaimoe from The Allman Brothers Band sat in.
I know this isn’t much of a post, but if you don’t know the Tedeschi Trucks Band, please check them out. Trust me, it’ll be worth it.
