We got our first snow of the season last night. It was the second winter storm, but the first one had mixed precipitation and just left a slushy mess on the ground. This one was snow from start to finish. We only got about three inches, which isn’t a lot, but it covered everything in a nice white blanket. It was also pleasantly sticky snow, so the trees and powerlines and fences were white. It’s the perfect kind of snow for snowballs and small snowmen. I know it wasn’t that much snow, but the kids should have gotten the day off school just to play in it.
There’s something about the first snow of the season. It always makes me happy. It gives me the warm fuzzies inside. This one especially made me happy because it had been unseasonably warm leading up to it. We had temperatures near 60 just last week. (I’m shaking my fist at global warming as I type this.) It definitely didn’t feel like December or the holiday season. It’s just hard to feel festive when the grass is still mostly green. Now, the grass is all covered, and we can all start celebrating. Break out the eggnog and turn up those carols. Let’s all hope for many more snows like this.
